The moon is groovy and when there's a full moon that's really, really groovy. Once a month high up in the dark evening sky the moon is a disk of light that shines down on earth. At those times the outside landscape glows brilliantly from the full moon light, and inside our house when the lamps are off everything glows too.
The moon doesn't have it's own light so the light we see at full moon time comes from a reflection of the sun's light on the moon. Yup, it's true. The light we think comes from the moon actually comes from the sun reflecting on the moon, and then shining that reflective light on our earth. Groovy huh?!
There are a lot of theories about the full moon. One of those theories is that the light of the moon makes people loony, which is a word derived from the Latin word lunacy meaning insanity, you know, crazy. So when the moon is full it reflects the most light onto our earth, and therefore the most lunacy. Well, that's what some folks think anyway.
And, some folks think that because I'm a Siberian Husky I howl when there's a full moon, but that's just not true. I howl when I'm hungry and I howl when I want to go outside or come inside our house, but I don't howl when there's a full moon. That's a fact.
